  • Arthur's Story

“As the parent of a GCSE student who sets high academic standards for himself, I knew that the limited time over the Easter holiday needed to be used wisely. My goal was to help him tackle some specific challenges in his exam preparation, and to find the right teachers who could truly make a difference.

The GCSE stage is a pivotal time for teenagers—it’s when they begin to build a structured academic foundation and develop genuine self-motivation in their learning. Yet with so many subjects to prepare for and so little time, much valuable knowledge risks being rushed through or lost altogether after the exams. That’s why, for me, the ideal teacher is not just an “exam coach,” but also a mentor with a broad academic vision and the ability to guide a young mind beyond the test. We were fortunate to find two such individuals through the Humanities Education platform: James (English) and Ben (History).

    About James (GCSE English Language)

James is like a skilled surgeon—he quickly identified the key areas where my son needed help: exam structure, response technique, and academic expression. From there, he offered clear, effective solutions. What impressed us most was his ability to sharpen my child’s understanding of how questions are designed, while also improving his reasoning skills. James seamlessly incorporated essential elements of academic writing—like logical organization and structured argument—into each session, providing a clear, practical path forward. Every class was focused, problem-solving, and made real progress possible. More than a tutor, James is a true scholar of the humanities, and a deeply thoughtful educator.

    About Ben (GCSE History)

Ben brought history to life with his rigorous and methodical teaching style. He helped my son organize events on a clear timeline and used targeted questions to strengthen his reasoning and argumentative writing. Whenever my son struggled to integrate source material into a persuasive narrative, Ben offered just the right feedback—making each essay more precise, coherent, and insightful. He has a gift for turning dry content into something engaging and intellectually stimulating. Under his guidance, my son not only improved his exam technique but also rediscovered a genuine love for history and writing.

    Shared Strengths

What both James and Ben have in common is a strong focus on developing critical thinking. My son described their lessons as “relaxed but effective.” Their approach—both intellectually rigorous and encouraging—made this short Easter break not just productive, but also genuinely enjoyable.

Now that he’s returned to school, I’ve seen a real change in his confidence and motivation. We’re truly looking forward to continuing this journey with James and Ben in the future. They are rare educators—both excellent teachers and inspiring mentors.”

  • Ellie’s Story

“Humanitas learning has taught my daughter through her GCSEs (English Language and Literature) and is now supporting her in her Classics A level studies. Without question the support from James has elevated my daughter’s grades. She achieved an A* GCSE English and is predicted an A* for her A -Level Classics following her mocks. She was also recognised by her school in achieving the top performing student in these subjects at the mid-year and end of year awards.

James’s support was a huge factor in her being able to achieve these grades. The lessons are well planned, the mixture of explanation, practice, practical and model answer reviews suited my daughters learning style. She can comfortably bring areas of difficulty to James who expertly offers advice and council to her on how to answer the question. He has used his expert exam knowledge to allow my daughter to widen the breath of her answers to gain maximum results. But most importantly his passion for the subjects has enriched and has inspired a passion for those subjects in my daughter, given her confidence and allowed her to succeed.

James has always been very professional, prompt in answering questions and flexible and supportive when we have had to move classes around.

I would like to personally thank James for his support over the years and the mentoring and guidance he has given my daughter. I can recommend Humanitas Learning without reservation to others who need similar support for their children.”
